Cottages –
Three self-catering cottages (sleeps 4 per cottage), situated on a river bank on the historical French Huguenot farm La Dauphine. Hiking, biking, fishing or just relaxing.
Facilities –
Braai-facility (wood for sale), fridge, microwave, hotplate. Bedding, towels and an iron are also available.
Activities –
Hiking, mountain biking (1.8km, 2.5km and 3.7km routes. 8km Total Course), fishing (tackle can be arranged).

About the farm

The farm was granted to the Huguenot, Ettienne Niel, on 18 October 1694 which he then named in memory of his province of origin, Le Dauphiné. It is now owned and cultivated by the Malherbe family since 5 October 1872. At first grain and vines were cultivated, but after the Philloxera disease (1886) destroyed most of the vinyards in the Western Cape, a switch was made to decidious fruit. Today plums, peaches, pears and citrus are being exported and wine grapes also produced.
The Cape Dutch manor house was completed in 1804 and built in the Neo-Classical style by the then owners, Daniël Jacobs and Sara Maré.
Grapes were pressed by hand and the wine made in the cellar on La Dauphine until 1958. It was the last farm in the Frenschhoek-Valley that used this method.

Die plaas is op 18 Oktober 1694 toegeken aan die Hugenoot, Ettienne Niel, wat dit na sy provinsie van herkoms Le Dauphine vernoem het. Sedert 5 Oktober 1872 is dit in die besit van die Malherbe familie. Aanvanklik was dit ‘n graan- en wingerdboerdery, maar nadat die Filloxera siekte (1886) feitlik al die wingerde in die Wes-Kaap vernietig het, is dit oorgeslaan na sagte vrugte toe. Vandag word pruime, perskes, pere en sitrus vir die uitvoermark verbou en wyndruiwe word ook geproduseer.
Die Kaaps-Hollandse woonhuis is in 1804 voltooi en in die Neo-Klassieke styl gebou deur die destydse eienaars, Daniël Jacobs en Sara Maré.
Druiwe was nog tot 1958 op La Dauphine met die hand gepars en die wyn was ook op die plaas gemaak. Dit was die laaste plaas in die Franschhoek-Vallei waar hierdie metode toegepas was.
